Meet Joe McLaughlin,
one of our senior recruiters in the permanent placement division! Joe has been with CoreMedical Group for 3 and a half years now, and he is a true New Englander as he’s lived here his entire life. He’s married to his beautiful wife, Devon, and they have a very rambunctiously funny 3-year-old son, Everett. He loves spending time with family and friends, spending summers at the lake and on the water. Joe enjoys trivia, is a big Boston sports fan, and loves to fish, although he says “I’ve been doing more fishing than catching recently.”
When asked about what, in his opinion, is the best part about recruiting he said,
“I would say ultimately the best thing about working as a recruiter is getting a candidate out of a bad situation and into a better situation or helping a great nurse that isn’t having any luck in the job market get some movement, schedule interviews and have multiple offers to choose from! Each day brings different conversations and situations. I think it’s very rewarding to get to speak with nurses and health care professionals from all over the country and from all walks of life!”
Joe describes himself as a “pretty personable and easy-going guy” so getting to know and understand nurses and therapists alike comes very naturally to him. He prioritizes his relationships with his candidates and pinpoints it as the largest factor in helping people land their dream jobs.
“You need to peel back the onion a little to understand what really motivates them in their job search, what pain points they have in their current role that are ultimately making them look elsewhere for employment. Building rapport and creating a good relationship with a candidate goes a long way in deciding and determining which job/location is going to make the most sense for them and their family.”
But what happens once you do start a new job? What happens to your recruiter? Are you left to fend for yourself? No! Joe says,
“They need to know that I’m always here for anything and everything, especially if they have a rough day at work and need someone to vent to for a little bit. Those conversations can be some of the toughest but ultimately is what will make you a more seasoned recruiter.”
